Summary

Frederik S. Herzberg teaches part-time as a titular professor at Bielefeld University's Center for Mathematical Economics (IMW) and Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies of Science (I2SoS); in addition, he is an External Member of the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (MCMP). His principal occupation is as a Lecturer at the Department of Mathematics of Saarland University.

Herzberg's research has been concerned primarily with various applications of probabiliy theory and mathematical logic, both within mathematics and also in other disciplines such as (formal) epistemology, theoretical statistics and economic theory. He has also worked on mathematics education involving infinitesimal analysis.

Biography in brief

After completion of his doctorates in theoretical mathematics (University of Bonn, 2005) and in mathematical finance (University of Oxford, 2006) as well as some post-doctoral work at the University of Bonn, Frederik Herzberg in 2007 became an assistant professor at Bielefeld University's Center for Mathematical Economics, where he earned his Habilitation in Economic Theory (higher doctorate equiv., 2011). Visiting fellowships brought him to the Mathematics Departments of the University of California, Berkeley (2008) and Princeton University (2009–2010) — and also to the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (2012–2013), where he prepared his Habilitation in Philosophy (University of Munich, 2017). His practical work experience includes two years as a Program Officer with the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (2015–2017).
