Sprague-Grundy Values of Grundy's Game

Introduction

Grundy's Game is a special case of a Nim Game. Given a heap of size n and two players who alternately have to select a heap and divide it into two unequal heaps. The player who can't make a legal move, then all remaining heaps have size 1 or 2, loses.
Therefore heapsizes <= 2 are lost and get the value 0. Generally a heap of size n has the value G(n) = min{ N0 \ U j G(successor_positionj) }. This formula holds for all such ``Take-and-Break'' Games.
The set of these Sprague-Grundy-Values G(n) can be divided into a sparse set, number of ones in the binary representation of G(n) without the lowest digit is even, and its complement, called the common set. Values of the sparse set occur extremly rare --- a value G(n) belongs to the sparse set if and only if parity( G(n) AND m) = 0 for a fixed game specific bitstring m. 1287 are known for Grundy's Game which has m=01111..., and if these die out the infinte sequence of the G(n) must become periodic.

Calculated November and December 1993: all G(n) with n <= 502*106.
From August 1995 until March 1996 Dan Hoey computed all values G(n) up to 11*109. All common values up to 287 have occured in this range. The last maximal value is G(4563802297)=291, but no further sparse values appeared.
Calculated in December 2000: all G(n) with n <= 5*232. On average 3130 common values were to check to verify the next ``Nim-value candidate'' and the farest to-iterate index=16746922727 was 50248198 apart.

Sorry, I forgot to document my further progress in computing sg-values for Grundy's Game here. In autum 2012 I tracked more octal-games and Grundy's Game to higher positions.
Starting on November 1st 2012, I made two runs finally reached G(284944236543) on 2012-11-25 and abort the job. I collected the data from the protocol files and even made the statistics correct (several 32-bit wrap arounds in counters had occured), but I did not put the result into this web-page only among the octal games in stat_grundys as usually.
