Overview

This part of our research centers on process development of biotransformations for technical applications in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. A major focus of biocatalysis is on the development of synthetic processes fulfilling the criteria of high efficiency, sustainability and scalability as well as the application of such biotransformations as key steps for the production of chemicals from various industrial value chains. Over the years, we focused on a wide range of enzyme classes and methods.

Molecular Modelling

Today, molecular modelling has become an essential part of protein engineering. The possibility to visualize, understand various enzyme reactions is a powerful tool for biocatalytic reactions and protein engineering. In our research, we are using molecular modelling to rationalize uncommon findings, which can not be explained just by wet lab experiments. Using our in-silico tools we are then not only able to understand the enzymes, but also to improve their performance for our needs.
