# Kuroda Prize (November 2013; revised February 2017) The Kuroda Prize was first awarded in 2013. The following principles and regulations apply to future awards. 1. The full name of the prize is "S.-Y. Kuroda Prize for Lasting Contributions to the Mathematics of Language", which in the remainder of this document is shortened to "Prize". 2. As the name indicates, the Prize is awarded for work that has made a sustained and enduring impact on the mathematics of language. To be eligible for the Prize, the date of publication of the work should be from the period 35–15 years prior to the year of award. In case the publication of the work spread over multiple papers/books, the publication dates must all fall within this period. For multiple publications to be considered for the prize, they must form a single coherent theme. This does not preclude continuation or extension of the work in more recent years, but the award will solely be based on the publications within the 20-year period preceding the last 15 years. 3. The Prize is awarded biennially. 4. The Prize is awarded by a comittee consisting of the current president of SIGMOL (who will chair), the vice-president/president elect, and the two previous presidents. 5. The Prize Committee calls for nominations from the membership together with updates of any nominations carried forward from previous years. Both new and updated nominations should take the form of a written case that includes a motivation. 6. The Prize Committee strives to converge on unanimous support for a nomination. In doing so it may seek advice from respected impartial senior figures in the field, such as previous recipients of the award. 7. The recipient of the Prize is announced by the chair of the Prize Committee in connection with the biennial meeting of SIGMOL. The announcement is widely publicized. 8. The recipient of the Prize receives a symbolic monetary award and/or physical token. These regulations are to be applied for the first time to determine the recipient of the 2015 Prize. For this award, contrary to (4), the Prize Committee consists of: * the president of SIGMOL (chair): Marco Kuhlmann * the vice-president/president-elect: to be elected * the previous president: András Kornai * a representative of the founders of the Prize: Jim Rogers
