SummaryFrederik S. Herzberg is a tenured Lecturer at the Department of Mathematics of Saarland University and simultaneously titular professor at Bielefeld University, as a member of its Center for Mathematical Economics (IMW) and Institute for Studies of Science (ISoS). In addition, he is an External Member of the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (MCMP) at the University of Munich (LMU). His research involves various applications of probability theory and mathematical logic, both within mathematics and also in other disciplines such as epistemology, theoretical statistics and economic theory. He has also worked on mathematics education involving infinitesimal analysis. Biography in briefAfter completion of his doctorates in theoretical mathematics (University of Bonn, 2005) and in mathematical finance (University of Oxford, 2006), followed by a post-doctoral position at the University of Bonn, Herzberg became an assistant professor at Bielefeld University's Center for Mathematical Economics in 2007 and earned there a Habilitation (higher doctorate) in Economic Theory (2011). Visiting fellowships brought him to the Mathematics Departments of the University of California, Berkeley (2008) and Princeton University (2009–2010) — and also to the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (2012–2013) of the University of Munich (LMU), where in 2017 he completed his Habilitation in Philosophy. He has gained pedagogical experience as a secondary school teacher and practical work experience as a Program Officer with the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (2015–2017).
