The system bios version appears on the upper left corner of the POST (Power-ON self Test) screen.

What is USB?

USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. USB is a new 4-pin Serial peripheral bus that is capable of cascading low/medium speed peripherals (less than 10Mbit/s) such as keyboard, mouse, joystick, scanner, printer and Modem/ISDN.

What type of memory module can I install on MP-989?

You can install the following type of memory module: 144-pin EDO, 3.3 volts RAM modules and/or 144-pin SDRAM, 3.3 volts RAM modules.
Note: EDO & SDRAM cannot be combined.

Can I disable the internal Touchpad?

No.

How many video RAM is used by MP-989?

MP-989 has 8MB video RAM .

What is the function of LCD cover switch?

The function of the LCD cover switch is to serve as a protection of LCD, the LCD cover will turn off the LCD when the display panel is closed or pressed.

How can I discharge my CMOS data?

Power off the notebook, then open the palm rest cover, near the microphone connector, there is a dip-switch, move it to the other side for 5 seconds and then put it back to the original position.

Does the two PCMCIA slots supports ZV ports?

Yes, the two PCMCIA slot supports Zoom Video function and there is no hot key that can enable the ZV function. Click O2Micro CardBus and run O2zvsw, select Socket A/B, then quit.

I cannot power OFF my machine when the system hang-up?

This is design for system protection purposes, should you want to force the system to power OFF, you must press the power switch for five seconds.

How can I boot from CD-ROM?

First, you should have a bootable CD and go to BIOS setup and go to "BIOS features setup", then change the Boot Sequence to "CDROM,C,A".

How can I disable the low battery beeping sound?

MP-989 do not have hot key to disable the low battery beeping sound, you must go to Power Saving and select "DISABLE" on Battery Low Warning Beep.

Can I hot swap the removable devices of MP-989?

No, the removable devices such as ZIP, LS-120, FDD doesn't support hot-swap.

Under Windows NT 4.0, when there is a PCMCIA card inserted, the system hang-up after resume-to-disk?

Windows NT 4.0 doesn't support Power Management, so it is not recommended to use save-to-disk or save-to-ram feature.

I cannot install the internal Fax/Modem card?

You must go to BIOS setup and select "You must go to BIOS setup and select "Integrated Peripherals" from the menu bar and highlight "UART2 Mode" and choose "MODEM" Save and Exit and go to Windows 98. The system should found a new hardware and put the fax/modem driver and go to System Properties, the system should be able to detect:

When I select "Suspend" in the RESATRT button under Windows 98, the system will go to Save-to-RAM only and will not go to Save-to-Disk?

The "Suspend" in the RESTART button depends on the value of the SUSPEND mode in the BIOS setup, if you select [SUSPEND] in the Suspend mode, it will go to Save-to-RAM only, if you select [Save-to-Disk], it will go to Save-to-Disk.

I encounter some dialing problem with my modem?

Please check the file version of the modem driver, it should be ver. 2.1.2.135

I am planning to add a 2nd HDD, What should I do?

If you are planning to add a 2nd HDD, you must purchase a HDD housing kit for second HDD and please check for the approved list of HDD that pass the compatibility test. And do the following :

1. Check with the HDD manual on how to set the 2nd HDD to SLAVE.

2. Place the 2nd HDD into the HDD housing kit and make sure it is securely connected.

3. With machine power OFF, remove the FDD assembly and insert the 2nd HDD assembly into the smart bay.

4. Power ON the machine and you should see the 2nd HDD during at POST.

Do MP-989 support Year 2000 compliant?

Yes, MP-989 supports Year 2000 compliant.

What's the maximum resolution I can use when connecting to a TV?

When using the video out to connect to the TV, the resolution should be 640 x 480.

When using Margi to Go DVD MPEG card, I have some display problem when using 32-bit color.

It is recommended that you use 24-bit color only.
